LEATHER DYES & PAINTS
There is a huge misconception regarding Leather Dyes and Leather Color Coatings (AKA Leather Paint). To briefly explain: Leather Dye is simply a coloring material. It’s sole purpose is to place a color into raw, unfinished leather. The dye is absorbed deeply into the leather to produce the desired color. This is made obvious when examining the leather from both sides, the color is the same. Many furniture manufacturers label their product as “aniline dyed”. However, this does not necessarily describe the materials used but merely the process that was used in producing the leather color. The entire raw hide is dipped into a vat of dye that is absorbed completely through the leather. The only time that aniline dyes are required during re-finishing or restoration is when working with unfinished leather such as Suede or NuBuck.
Leather Color Coats or “paint” are used when working with all other types of leather. They work, as the name states, as a coating on the surface. When examining a piece of leather from both sides, you will see that the exposed side is one color while the back side is a completely different color. That’s because the process used to color the leather was not an aniline dye process but rather a coating process. And to make matters worse, some “coated” leathers were aniline dyed before being coated making the leather the same color front and back!

WATER BASED LEATHER COLOR COATS (AKA LEATHER PAINT)
For use on all Top Coated “Protected” leather, Semi-Aniline Leather, Vinyl and Plastics
Leather Magic!™ Water Based Color Coat is a “one-step” color coating system:
• Requires No Primers or “Pre-Bottoms”
• No “top coats” or clear coats are required (Clear Coats may be used if desired)
• No “additives” required (They are already mixed in!)
▪ No Flex agents needed
▪ No “Feel Agents (Slip) needed
▪ No “Resins” or “Reducers” needed
Our color coats are a water based polyurethane material, the same as the original material used to finish leather at the tannery. Leather Magic!™ leather color coats have been formulated to provide you with a new finish that is actually stronger and more durable than the original finish! They remain extremely soft, flexible and natural feeling to replicate the original finish. Provides a permanent finish that will not transfer to clothing or other articles which may come into contact with the finish. May be cleaned with regular cleaning materials. Remains porous so that Conditioning oils may penetrate into the leather itself.
Formulated specifically to be very thin in viscosity so as to provide a far more natural appearance to refinished materials. While being significantly thinner, much less color coating material is required in order to obtain complete coverage. Half as much color coating will be used compared to what is required with other similar products.

ANILINE DYES
For use on all NuBuck Suede and Raw, Unfinished Leather
Leather Magic!™ Aniline Dyes are alcohol based and designed specifically for use on NuBuck & Suede as well as new, unfinished/untreated leather. These are true, alcohol based dyes that provide a semi-opaque finish and a slightly transparent finish on new untreated leather. Aniline Dyes are heavily pigmented and will even enable you to change the color on most of your items!
Provides a Semi-Transparent finish that will restore the color of faded, stained or discolored areas. Remains extremely soft and flexible and will withstand even the most severe punishment. Provides a permanent finish that will not transfer to clothing or other articles which may come into contact with the finish. May be cleaned with regular cleaning materials. Remains porous so that Conditioners may penetrate into the leather itself.

CARPET & UPHOLSTERY DYE
Restore or Even Change the Color of Carpet & Fabric Upholstery
Leather Magic!™ Carpet & Upholstery Dye is a water based product that permanently adheres to the fibers of carpet & cloth fabrics. Works on all fabric types including nylon, rayon, wool, cotton, canvas and more! Retains the soft feel and look of the fabric and will not rub off onto clothing or anything that it comes into contact with.
Easy “brush-in” or “spray-on” application. Dries quick and cleans up with plain soap and water. Once dry and allowed to cure it will not wash out of fabric. Great for restoring sun faded automotive carpeting, seat upholstery and canvas convertible tops.

Please keep in mind that in order to complete a permanent job, proper prep work and application methods are required. That’s why we recommend using one of our restoration kits. They provide you with everything you will need.
